Nicole L. Sultani

Nicole L. Sultani

Attorney

Nicole Sultani has joined McGrath North’s nationally recognized Tax group following her two year clerkship with the firm. Nicole received her undergraduate degree from Creighton University where her excellence was recognized by her induction into Phi Beta Kappa, the Dean’s Fellows Program, her selection as the Leo Vincent Jacks Scholar of Classical Languages, and much more. Nicole’s deep interest in Greek and Roman history then led her to the Joslyn Art Museum during college where she studied and catalogued its unique collection of Roman glass.

After deciding that her long term career interest was working with business owners (her family owned and operated Petrow’s Restaurant in Omaha for over 70 years), Nicole attended the nationally ranked University of Minnesota Law School, where her academic excellence was again recognized. She focused her studies in business and tax, and graduated with a Business Concentration in May 2021. While in law school, Nicole served as Managing Editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science and Technology, was named a Dean’s Elite Scholar, and worked in the Employment Law Clinic gaining practical, client-focused experience.

Planning Opportunities With Grantor Trusts

For tax professionals, a new year means more than new resolutions. The 2023 updated estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer (GST) transfer tax exemptions represent new wealth and estate planning opportunities for clients. The federal estate, gift and GST exemption amounts have increased this year to $12,920,000 per person (an $860,000 increase from 2022). Particularly considering these amounts are scheduled to decrease by half in 2026, the time is ripe for many clients to consider how best to utilize their exemptions before they lose them.

Estate Planning For Digital Assets: Intangible, But Important

As our society becomes increasingly tied to digital technologies, the world of estate planning is faced with novel questions. Today, many people own substantial digital assets whether they realize it or not. Sentimental items such as electronically stored photos, videos, and social media accounts, as well as items of financial value such as domain names, blogs, bitcoin, and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) constitute digital assets that must be considered when preparing an estate plan.
