D. David DeWald

David is an experienced environmental lawyer and commercial litigator.  He brings to our firm unique added-value knowledge gained by working within the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Wyoming, in its Division of Water and Natural Resources.  During his five years as Senior Assistant Attorney General, David gained the unique perspective of the regulators’ approach to material environmental disputes with private parties in litigation and administrative contested cases and gained valuable public policy insights through his advisor role to the Governor and his staff.  Without question, he is positioned to build winning strategies in environmental matters of all types with this “insider” regulatory background.

In addition, David has unique experience handling procedurally and substantively complex federal and state appeals at every level, from the ground up.  This includes merits and certiorari briefing before the United States Supreme Court, as well as participating as intervenor and amicus curiae advancing public policy positions on behalf of state agencies and industry groups.  David’s specific experience is held by only a handful of other attorneys throughout the country, and his insider knowledge benefits his clients at the regulatory, transactional, and appellate levels, whatever they may be.

David began his career litigating at a private firm for national clients in Omaha.  He has handled a broad range of business cases—from complex class actions to single party contract disputes—in both federal and state courts and before administrative bodies.  He served as lead counsel in multiple trials and filled critical roles in many others.  David had the advantage when he started litigating of having served as the law clerk to the Honorable John. M. Gerrard during his time at the Nebraska Supreme Court.

David is excited to return to his home state and continue using his sophisticated environmental and litigation experience at McGrath North to advocate for businesses of all sizes, from Fortune 500 to small and mid-size companies. He recognizes the critical importance of collaborating with client business leaders and in-house counsel to effectively establish and aggressively implement successful strategies to reach their business goals.
