Alexander K. Shaner

Attorney

Alex is a member of McGrath’s Litigation Group, where he clerked for two years during law school before joining the firm as an associate in 2020. After graduating magna cum laude from Drake University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Alex spent several years involved in regulatory and communication matters for energy and chemical companies and marketing strategies for technology and manufacturing businesses throughout the country. With this real-world experience in hand, and having served as a policy intern for the United States Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Alex attended the nationally recognized University of Minnesota Law School where he graduated magna cum laude in 2020 and was a Managing and Research Editor for the Minnesota Law Review and served as a Student Director of the Insurance Law Clinic.


Using his persuasive writing, keen analytical approach, and tenacity in pursuing his client’s interests, Alex is a key component of McGrath’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group representing businesses in a variety of industries including construction, insurance, and agri-business. Alex focuses his litigation practice throughout the litigation process from pre-dispute negotiations and resolutions all the way through discovery, trial, and appeals. Alex vigorously represents clients in arbitration and matters throughout the Midwest in variety of contexts including commercial and business litigation, environmental and land-use litigation, insurance litigation, and personal injury and product liability litigation.

Nebraska Supreme Court: Johnson vs. City of Omaha

In an important decision impacting the letting of public contracts, the Nebraska Supreme Court recently affirmed a judgment entered by the District Court of Douglas County rejecting a taxpayer claim attempting to set aside a multimillion-dollar contract for waste management services with the City of Omaha. James Powers and Alex Shaner lead the defense lead for McGrath North.  The firm is enthused for its client and the City.
