Cody Elyse Brookhouser-Sisney

Attorney

Cody focuses her litigation practice on labor and employment law. She advises companies and businesses of all sizes on a broad spectrum of labor and employment issues, including employee handbooks, employment policies and procedures, hiring/firing decisions, discipline issues, wage and hour issues and compliance with local, state and federal laws. She is responsive and pragmatic, helping clients understand their legal rights and responsibilities.


She also advocates for clients in federal and state court as well as administrative proceedings in a wide range of labor and employment matters, such as employment litigation, EEOC and DOL investigations, ALJ hearings, collective bargaining, contract negotiation, grievance arbitration, and unfair labor practice complaints.

Cody earned her Juris Doctor, with High Distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law.  After law school, she served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Patience Drake Roggensack of the Wisconsin Supreme Court during the 2015-2016 term.

Inclusive Communities has selected Cody Brookhouser-Sisney as a LeadDiversity advocate for its 2021-22 class. This year long program is designed to build a network of leaders dedicated to creating opportunities and solutions related to diversity, equity and inclusion in this region. Cody joins 30 other advocates representing a cross section of Nebraska’s corporate, non-profit, public sector, education, healthcare and foodservice industries.

Quarantined Employee With Positive COVID Test May Be Entitled To FMLA Leave Even Without Any Restrictions

A decision by a federal court, based on events at the start of the COVID pandemic, examined an employee's claim that he was improperly denied FMLA leave after being advised to quarantine following a positive COVID test, even though he apparently had no COVID symptoms or related restrictions. The Court, on technical grounds, denied the employer's attempt to get the case dismissed.
