Cody E. Brookhouser-Sisney

Attorney

Cody is a Shareholder at McGrath North and an experienced litigation attorney who focuses her practice on labor and employment law, business and contract matters, and commercial litigation.

Cody represents local, national and global clients in federal and state court in a wide range of disputes, including employment-related litigation, fair housing cases, business torts, contractual disputes, and other commercial disputes including everything from trade secrets cases to insurance matters to construction litigation.

In addition to her litigation practice, Cody advises companies of all sizes on a broad spectrum of business and employment-related issues. Her counsel covers contractual rights and responsibilities, fiduciary obligations, non-competes and non-solicitation agreements, employment policies and procedures, hiring and termination decisions, reductions in force (RIFs), ADA and FMLA compliance, paid leave requirements, wage and hour issues, and adherence to federal, state and local laws.

Cody also represents clients in administrative proceedings before agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Department of Labor (DOL), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Commission of Industrial Relations (CIR) and Office of Administrative Law Judges. Her experience includes handling employment and housing disputes such as discrimination, harassment and retaliation investigations, fair housing complaints, wage claims, collective bargaining and contract negotiations, labor disputes, grievance arbitration, and unfair labor practice complaints.

Cody also has in-house experience with a Fortune 500 company, where she managed day-to-day employment litigation and compliance matters. This experience provides her with a business-minded approach to counseling her clients with practical advice and solutions.




Cody has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch since 2021 for her work in Litigation – Labor and Employment and Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law. She earned her Juris Doctor, with High Distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law.  Following law school, she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Patience Drake Roggensack of the Wisconsin Supreme Court for the 2015-2016 term.

Known for her responsive, thorough and pragmatic approach, Cody has a remarkable ability to distill complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance that helps clients confidently move forward. 

She also serves on McGrath North’s Innovation Committee, which is dedicated to fostering growth and a forward-thinking firm culture while developing new and creative ways to deliver on the firm’s commitments to clients and uphold its standard of excellence.

Texas Court Blocks DOL Minimum Salary Rule on a Nationwide Basis

Today, a federal judge in Texas blocked the U.S. Department of Labor (“DOL”) from enforcing a rule that would have expanded overtime eligibility for millions of workers by raising the salary minimum to $58,656 effective January 1, 2025.
